Help · Interpreting findings

How to read a scanner finding.

Every finding the scanner emits carries four pieces of information: an SC ID, a severity label, an ADF location path, and a remediation hint. The Jira issue panel, the Confluence content property panel, and the preview at /jira-panel all render the same shape.

The exact shape

This is one finding. Open the panel and it looks exactly like this.

Below is the rendered shape the panel emits for a real WCAG violation — pulled from the scanner resolver's reference ADF. SC 1.1.1 emits on media nodes whose attrs.alt is missing; the panel renders it as severity Major.

Major
SC 1.1.1
mediaSingle[2].media[0]

Media has no `attrs.alt`; describe the image (or set `appearance: "placeholder"` if decorative).

Open /jira-panel on the demo issue DEMO-1 and you'll see this card (and four others) rendered by the live panel-island.

The four pieces

SC ID · severity label · ADF location · remediation hint.

SC ID

The WCAG Success Criterion the finding maps to. The panel emits five dotted identifiers — 1.1.1, 1.3.1, 2.4.6, 3.1.1, and 1.4.3 — and one rule-specific id table-header. Each id gates a single ADF rule and is turned on or off from /help/configure-scan-profile.

Severity label

The panel renders four labels: Critical · Major · Minor · Info. The mapping is fixed (WCAG critical → Critical, serious → Major, moderate → Minor, minor → Info). The left-border ring on the card and the badge fill match the rank so a stack of findings reads top-down at a glance.

ADF location path

A dotted path through the ADF document root, segments like mediaSingle[2].media[0] or paragraph[4].text[2]/textColor. Indices are stable across renders, so the same content emits the same path and an auto-fix bolt can find the same node next time.

Remediation hint

A short imperative sentence that tells the author exactly which attribute to add or which structural change to make. For SC 1.1.1 the hint says describe the image, or mark it decorative. For SC 1.3.1 it's insert intermediate heading levels. The panel renders the hint as the body copy of each card and offers a "Copy hint" button to paste it into the editor.

Reading the colors

Three findings, stacked, ranked by left-border ring.

A page of findings is a stack of these cards. The left-border ring is the severity at a glance; the badge confirms it.

  1. Major
    SC 1.1.1
    mediaSingle[2].media[0]

Media has no `attrs.alt`; describe the image (or set `appearance: "placeholder"` if decorative).

  2. Major
    SC 1.3.1
    heading[3]

Heading jumps from level 1 to 4; insert intermediate levels so the outline stays sequential.

  3. Major
    SC 3.1.1
    paragraph[4]

Block with `localId` "launch-notes" has no `lang`; pair the identifier with a language so assistive tech can announce it.

Filter the live stack by severity from the dropdown at the top of /jira-panel; the same control exists on the Confluence panel at /confluence-panel.

What to do next

Two follow-up articles.

  • Configure scan profile

Turn an SC on or off, or set a severity floor so findings lighter than your floor are hidden from the panel. See /help/configure-scan-profile.

  • False positives

When a finding is structurally correct but doesn't apply to your content — and when to silence the SC at the profile level instead. See /help/false-positives (coming soon).

See the live panel for one canonical stack of findings at /jira-panel, or the Confluence panel at /confluence-panel.
